THE CHILD: EDUCATION BEGINS BEFORE
BIRTH:
“ Children are the hope of the future, the builders of tomorrow”.
These are some words which are quoted time and again and one cannot
deny that in today’s times efforts are being made to bring up
children in the proper way and to give them the right education
so that they grow up to be complete human beings and are a boon
to the society.
For
this to happen we must understand the child and his needs. The
education of a human being ideally should begin at birth and continue
throughout his life and if we want this education to have its
maximum result, it should begin even before birth which means
that the mother is the one who proceeds with this education by
means of a two fold action plan: firstly upon herself for her
own improvement and secondly upon the child whom she is forming
physically. We now know for sure that the nature of the child
to be born depends very much upon the mother who forms it, upon
her aspirations and will as well as upon the material surroundings
in which she lives. An expectant mother needs to make sure that
her thoughts are always beautiful and pure, her feelings always
noble and fine, her materials surroundings as harmonious as possible
and full of a great simplicity- this is a part of education which
needs to be applied by the mother herself and above all this,
if she has a conscious and definite will to form the child according
to the highest ideal she can conceive then the very best conditions
will be realized so that the child can come into the world with
his utmost potentialities. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that
if this could be followed properly then society on the whole improves
and if society improves than the country improves so it is beneficial
for all.
